Dr Claire Warden's 2026 Australian Tour

Floorbooks®: A shared journey of inquiry, leadership and change

Dr Claire Warden is bringing the Floorbook Approach® to nine Australian cities this August and September.

Across a full day of experience, dialogue and reflection, you'll explore how documentation becomes a tool for thinking, how team voice is strengthened, and how meaningful change emerges in practice.

Grounded in curiosity, the day connects learning, reflection and change into one ongoing process. Rather than treating planning, documentation and leadership as separate tasks, you'll experience how they come together through shared thinking and practice.

Claire draws on real Floorbook® examples throughout, connecting leadership, learning and improvement in ways that hold up in the room, not just on paper.

This day will help your team:

    • Recognise and extend children's curiosity through Floorbooks®
    • Work alongside children, families and colleagues in shared inquiry
    • Connect observation, planning and reflection into one visible cycle
    • Build team voice and support collective change
    • Align practice with EYLF V2.0, the NQS and APST

What to expect

Morning: an invitation to notice and respond to children's curiosity, and how teams work together to make meaning from it.

Afternoon: how this thinking translates into ongoing, meaningful change across a setting or service.

Whether you're an educator, an educational leader, or part of a leadership team, this is a shared journey of inquiry alongside others across the sector.

Are you planning for children, or around them?

You spend Sunday evening planning the week ahead. Monday morning, the children couldn't care less, they've found a spider and that's all that matters now.

Most planning cycles are built by adults, for adults. They rarely leave room for what children are actually thinking. The result is documentation that satisfies a folder but says little about the learning underneath it.

Floorbooks® work differently. They hold the thinking, the change and the learning over time, so teams can move at the pace of real inquiry instead of rushing to tick boxes.

  • Planning with and for Children

Planning with and for Children – Australian Edition

At the heart of this approach is one fundamental belief: Children are competent co-constructors of knowledge whose ideas and theories should drive learning, not just be accommodated within pre-planned curricula.

Creating Floorbooks is about equity and collaboration, recognizing that when we start with children's authentic interests and theories, learning becomes deeper, planning becomes easier, and curriculum outcomes naturally emerge.

Meet Dr Claire Warden

The Creator of The Floorbook Approach and Leadership Floorbooks

Dr Claire Warden created The Floorbook Approach® over 35 years ago. Since then it has been adopted by thousands of settings across the UK, Australia, and beyond and recommended by the Care Inspectorate as best practice.

Leadership Floorbooks grew from real settings, teams, and the real world observation of leaders. Claire noticed that the settings that thrived weren't the ones most diligent with their paperwork, but the ones whose teams felt heard, valued, and invested in the work.

That's the core principle at the heart of Leadership Floorbooks.
