Family Book - A4 (A4 - 29.7 X 21 cm)

This Family Book is a spiral-bound, child-friendly journal designed to document an individual child’s learning journey within the Floorbook Approach, creating a bridge between home and setting.

Dr Claire Warden describes Family Books as a key part of the Floorbook Approach, focusing on the story of one child rather than a whole group. They are used to create interesting, relevant, accessible and individual profiles by gathering children’s words, drawings, photographs and observations over time. Through this process, practitioners can support child-led documentation, giving children a genuine voice in how their learning is recorded and shared. Family Books are designed to travel between setting and home so that parents and caregivers can add their own contributions, helping to connect experiences in the family, the early years environment and the wider community. In doing so, they have a positive impact on the child, strengthening relationships, celebrating identity and making learning visible to everyone around them.
